A MAN raped a woman on a Tinder date then sent her a WhatsApp note with a smiley face hours later, a court heard today.
The Louth lad, 36, has pleaded not guilty to rape at Kilmashogue Lane, Co Dublin in 2014.
The alleged victim, 31, gave evidence that after matching on Tinder the pair exchanged WhatsApp messages, with the defendant sending her up to 20 messages within a 24-hour period.
A date was arranged for September 11, 2014, and an arrangement was made to go for “a spin and a coffee”.
She said he told her they would take the “long way back” and he drove down a rural road. He stopped the car and said: “I wouldn’t abandon you in the mountains.”

She said after a brief kissing session she asked him to “take it easy”.
Her evidence is that he replied: “What the f*** do you think we’re here for?”
She said she didn’t want a “one-night stand” and she left the car after he told her to “get the f*** out”.
He drove off, but returned a few minutes later and she got in. He pulled a lever to drop her seat back and moved on top of her. She said she was terrified and said no to him.
The alleged victim said when he began to remove her clothes she stopped resisting him — and he then raped her.
He dropped her home and later sent her a WhatsApp with a smiley face, which she deleted.
The trial will continue before Mr Justice Paul Butler and a jury.
